“CREATE YOUR OWN REALITY”

My own realty presents a picture of the Golden Gate Bridge. The colors are bright and saturated green grass at the bottom, blue sea, and the bright red bridge. The most vivid colors are in the sky, with different tones of pink at the bottom that blend with orange on top, like sunset. The sky is also filled with fog. There is the silhouette of a man keeping his balance, as if he were on a tight rope, going up one of the bridge’s cables. As the bridge continues into the distance it starts twisting and curving into a spiral. In the sky there is a ghostly face which is fading in a surrealist sense.

There is no pattern, but There is a color contrast between the warm colors in the top part of the picture, which neutral in the middle with the mountains in the background and then into cool colors at the bottom. Also, the straight lines of the up-close part of the bridge are contrasted with the curviness it gains with the distance. The bright sky is being emphasized, together with the strange and unnatural curves the bridge gains as it disappears in the distance. The composition has an asymmetrical balance; most of the picture’s elements are concentrated on the right side. The elements come together to create some sense of unity.

This composition symbolizes surrealism and the power that the imagination has to twist and distort reality in ways that aren’t possible in the real world. The elements contribute to this meaning in the way that they defy any physical laws that are true in the real world, like the bridge being so curvy that it almost turns upside down or the floating face. The piece captures my power of imagination really well; it shows that I have a twisted and big imagination, which I use daily. It also represents the painters of my culture, like Pablo Picasso, capturing elements that symbolize distortion, surrealist dreams and mystery.

I feel this piece was successful; it looks how I meant it to look, like a reality that has been distorted and made unreal, like a dream. I think most of the elements of the design work together and create some unity. Although I think it could have been created more neatly, I think it does look good, because it shows a strange and interesting concept of reality. :)
